Quality of chemicals

Chemicals are produced in various quality classes, which enables their wide application starting with use in chemical laboratories up to industrial production.

Chemicals are classified into quality classes based on their purity. The following degrees of purity are distinguished:

Pure p.
Analytical reagent, analytical grade A.R., A.G.
Purris p.a., ACS
Selectipur p.p.

These basic designations of the degree of purity are completed as needed with the data on the content or absence of certain impurities, for example, sulfuric acid without nitrogen, or zinc free of arsenic. For some chemicals that can be classified only with difficulty according to some of the above-indicated criteria, the purpose is indicated for which the chemical is intended and for which it is suitable by its composition; for example, 96% ethanol for UV spectrophotometry must not contain impurities absorbing light in the UV region, but may contain water. Therefore, some products contain information on the method of use; for example, "for synthesis" or "for biochemical purposes". The "ACS" designation means that the product meets the requirements of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The "ISO" designation means that products were analyzed according to the ISO standards (International Standardization Organization).
The composition of a series of pure chemicals can deviate from the above-indicated standards, primarily if a substance contains internal impurities that do not impede its use; for example, water in hygroscopic substances or inorganic salts in colour indicators.

A specific group of delivered chemical substances are pharmaceutical raw materials whose quality must comply with the requirements of current Czech Pharmacopoeia, respectively European Pharmacopoeia, or United states Pharmacopoeia, British Pharmacopoeia, German Pharmacopoeia or Austrian Pharmacopoeia.
The quality of all the produced and supplied products is documented by the analytical quality certificate, specifications or, as the case may be, commercial designation of the products.

The analytical certificate is a very important document indicating the values of the content of the active substance actually measured and the values of impurities actually measured. The analytical certificate is supplied upon the customer´s request.
